From research engineer to operations manager in the production department
During his career, Kalle has already worked as a research engineer in both a chemical plant and an electrolysis plant.
At the beginning of 2016, he moved from the research and development unit to the production side as electrolysis operations manager.
A new profession with an apprenticeship: process operator at Nornickel
Pilvi started in the apprenticeship group that started in 2015. Pilvi describes the work of a process operator as varied. The tasks include both process monitoring via display terminals and work in the field.
The training gave me good basic knowledge to succeed at work, but the final learning of the process takes place on the job itself, Pilvi says.

Henna works in the Research and Development department as a research engineer in process and product development.
"Research and development means wanting to do things better and developing our own operations. The goal of process development is to make our processes work more economically and environmentally friendly," says Henna.

The work involves collaboration with process personnel and maintenance.
Apprenticeship as a process operator for Nornickel
Nornickel Harjavalta's process managers' path to permanent employment is through apprenticeship training.
The three-year apprenticeship is completed alongside work, and the trainees graduate with a basic and vocational qualification in the process industry.
The tasks of process managers include process control and monitoring, as well as sampling. Process managers work in four different production departments and work in shifts.
